Why can’t USA automakers invest in better technology?
The government should forget about the names GM and Chrysler. If they fail, they fail. INSTEAD, the US government should offer grants towards technology, research and development costs as a program incentive for ANY US Auto-maker, GM or any other, then leave it up to the companies to succeed or fail on their own merit.
This will help us compete with the German Volkswagon.
Just look how far Germany has come with automaking? Why don’t we have a car factory like this in the USA?
Because that means fewer jobs for the UAW.

I totally agree with your idea!
I don’t think the problem is that we CAN’T, I think it’s that we WON’T!
I also think our country should invest in putting solar collectors on every rooftop in America and electric Hybrid vehicles! Then we could let the Mideast go drown in their oil, while we moved into a cleaner more prosperous future!
…but it’s all about the rich and greedy getting richer while the rest of us…

US automakers are permanently hobbled by the UAW. The only way to restore the market competitiveness of American industry is to destroy the unions.

The money to be spent on R&D is spent on the UAW.
Incentive is the driving motive behind all technological advance — I agree 100% w/ your idea.
Can you imagine if the Government offered incentives to any company that hires new employees?

Ford Motor Company is doing just fine. They did not take one dime of taxpayer money, they are solvent, and their company stock has more than doubled in the past couple of months. Mine is up 115 percent.

Planned obsolence. Makes more money and focuses on profits rather than quality.

Because of the oppressive costs of funding the UAW’s pension fund and because of excessive regulations imposed by the government. It costs unionized automakers $75 an hour per employee to pay wages and all benefits. It costs a non unionized automaker $40 an hour per employee.

Sure?
They don’t have better technology?
Look in the real world.
Decode this lyrics " You’ll see "
The technology is there.
It’s here-say of the dead Mummy from the twilight zone that crumble into dust with technology in different time zone in time.
How hard they tried.
Still it crumble into dust.
Until they just lay down the tools and walk out with " What’s up"
