How does the first home owners grant apply to 2 friends purchasing a house together?
Do we both get the grant? and therefore save more?
Does only 1? and we have to decide who?
I would like to know this as I look towards purchasing a house.

First time home buyer grants exist only in certain areas. In New York, the city of Albany has such a grant program. It is up to 5k. You must purchase a home in a less desirable neighborhood and agree to improvements and length of years of staying. There are no across the board grants. Check with the municipality of the area you are considering. Some require minimum down payments and a guarantee of ability to pay for necessary renovations.
