what is the best way to grant permissions to a site in Sharepoint?
Many times, when I try to grant access directly, the option is not available (grayed out). The only option I seem to have is to add the user to a group, but I'd rather just give them permission directly to the area. Can anyone help? Thanks!
Hmm, I've never seen that option greyed out before… Beneath the "Groups" navigation the "Site Permissions" option is not available? That's strange, because if you can add people to groups then you should be able to give them specific site permissions through that link. Site Actions > Site Settings > People and Groups > Site Permissions > New > Add Users or New Group
FYI, it's best practice to add users to groups rather than give them specific site permissions for organization and ease of use.
